Federal Trademarks and Connecticut (CT) State Trademarks

A trademark is a word, phrase, symbol, design or combination of words, phrases, symbols or designs that identifies and distinguishes goods produced by one party from those of another. A service mark is a word, phrase, symbol, design or combination of words, phrases, symbols or designs that identifies and distinguishes services by one party from those of another.

Both trademarks and service marks tend to serve as a guarantee of quality and consistency and in some situations, federal registration of these marks may serve as proof of ownership.
